SalsaSalsa is a very fun, energetic, and stimulating partner dance. Its sociable nature makes Salsa highly popular among dance lovers, all around the world!
Emigrants from Cuba, Colombia and Puerto Rico in the 1920’s brought their dances and music (Son, Montuno, Mambo, Guaracha, Chachacha, and Bolero) to the Unites States to the neighborhoods and clubs of New York, Miami and Los Angeles. It was then around the 1970’s/80’s, when Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians in New York dared to mix the musical rhythms and motifs of their ancestors that Salsa was born. With the new spicy musical fusion, the dances of the foundation rhythms also morphed into the modern styles of Salsa we dance today. More on our salsa classes here! //Back to top //FR |
BachataBachata is one of the most popular styles of social dance worldwide. Its simplicity makes it a very beginner-friendly dance, while the room for musical interpretation it provides makes it truly addictive for dancers of all levels.
Being born in the Dominican Republic, Bachata can be traced back to the early 1960’s. Originally it was a mix of other dances such as Merengue, Son Cubano and Bolero. Over time it has been influenced by other dance styles and has incorporated some of these stylings and movements especially from contemporary and modern dance, hip-hop and ballroom. This dance is based on an easy-to-follow sequence of three on-beat steps, with a tap marking the fourth beat. It is styled with a fluid and seductive sway of the hips which is mesmerizing to watch and just wonderful to dance! More on our Bachata classes here! //Back to top //FR |
SwingSwing dance is an umbrella concept for a group of social dance styles that was developed with the Swing style of Jazz music in the 1920s through the 1940s.
The styles that have survived beyond the era are: Balboa, Charleston, Collegiate Shag and the Lindy Hop. The term "Swing dancing" is frequently expanded to incorporate some dances that lack specific attributes of the traditional Swing dances. Those are: West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Carolina Shag, Saint-Louis Shag, Hand Dancing, Jive, Modern Jive, and Rock & Roll. All Swing music has a 4/4 time. The speed & feel of the music can differ a bit for each style. More on our Swing classes: Lindy Hop and Solo Jazz //Back to top //FR |
ForróThe Brazil’s Dance of Joy and Celebration!
Forró is culture and a vibrant partner dance from Northeastern Brazil, rooted in Indigenous, African, and European influences. The name come from forrobodó, meaning “lively party”, and that spirit shines through every step. Danced to irresistible rhythms like baião, xote, and xaxado, it’s famous for its close embrace, playful steps, and warm social vibe. More than just a dance, Forró is a celebration – from small local parties to huge festivals around the world. Easy to learn and impossible to forget, it’s the perfect way to connect, move, and feel the Brazilian spirit from the very first beat! African DancesGoing to the roots of Latin and Swing dances, we dive into traditional West African/Mandingo dances and percussions: Jankadi, Makuru, Dununba, Soli, Mandiani, Djolé, Maane, Konkoba…
These dances and music are more than entertainment; they are deeply intertwined with Mandigo/Mandinka history, social traditions and community life. Let yourself be enchanted by the rhythms of the djembes, douns and balafons! More on our classes: African Dances and African Percussions //Back to top //FR |
